Growing up there was an expectation within my family that the children would become doctors. When I was in high school, I decided I wanted to be a psychologist and I held on to that desire through undergraduate. Once I started to shadow a psychologist at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital, I quickly realized that I was not well equipped for the job. While I fell in love with the research and theories within psychology, putting all of that into practice was something I was not prepared for.
While still in school I took a part time job at JP Morgan Chase, where I spent nine years and worked my way up to relationship manager. I worked alongside financial advisors to cultivate long-lasting relationships with clients. I was able to use my psychology degree to better understand my clients and gain a better understanding of what they needed and what their goals were financially. After nine years of being with the company I found myself losing interest in the job. With nothing more to learn for the position, I decided to leave the company.
Shortly after leaving the company, I started to work for a small medical office. With the skills I have learned from my previous position, I was able to help them cultivate new relationships and foster old ones on their social media platforms. I currently manage their social media presence and help them market themselves while keeping in mind their mission to spread factual medical information. While working as a social media manager, I discovered how much I love my job and decided to pursue my masters in media communications at Rutgers University. With the support of my family, I will be graduating in December 2023. My goal is to work as a marketing manager for a medical facility to help them develop a brand their patients can trust.
When I am not working or going to school, I love going out with friends and family. My husband and I love to travel any chance we get. We enjoy experiencing the food and cultures from around the world. Aside from English I speak three additional languages Gujarati, Hindi, and Punjabi. Gujarati is my mother tongue, and Hindi I learned from watching Indian movies with my mother. After getting married my husband and I felt it was important to learn one another’s native language, which is when I learned Punjabi. While I know some languages better than others, I am enjoying the process of learning.
